Then we look at the impact the abuser has on the woman, her children, and family dynamics. We also examine the overlap between domestic violence and child maltreatment, looking at the full range of ways in which men who abuse women may bring harm to children. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Identify the range of ways in which battering men cause danger and psychological harm in the home. Avoid the most serious intervention errors by learning to identify danger signs. Assess current professional practices for their strengths and weaknesses in assisting families affected by the conduct of a batterer. Design best-practice interventions for all family members.  To understand the effects of verbal/emotional, physical, sexual, and interpersonal violence; trauma and recovery in adults and children. To identify the short and long-term impact of domestic violence and sexual assault; emotional, mental, physical, economic, financial, and legal. To increase professional collaboration efforts of community partners in being able to identify, interrupt, and influence a positive change in the outcomes of batterers and victims domestic violence. Supporting the parenting of battered women. About the Speaker: Lundy Bancroft has over twenty-five years of experience specializing in interventions for abusive men and their families. He has authored five books in the field, including the U.S.'s best-selling book on domestic violence, Why Does He Do That?, and the national prize winner The Batterer as Parent. Lundy is a former co-director of Emerge, the nation’s first counseling program for men who batter and was involved in over 2000 cases as counselor and clinical supervisor. He has also served extensively as a custody evaluator, child abuse investigator, and expert witness. Arbor Day Family Event

There will be a live presentation by the Pine Grove Zoo. Come see and touch a Panther Chameleon, Sand Boa, Rabbit. Golden Knee Tarantula and a Sulcata Tortoise. Animals will be on site from noon to 2pm!

Other activities include: bird hikes, scavenger hunt by Happy Dancing Turtle, orienteering and nature crafts for the kids. There also be food for sale!!

Crow Wing County master gardeners and MN master naturalists will be on site to answer your questions.
